The National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) and the Korea Association for ICT Promotion (KAIT), with support from South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT, have launched the inaugural AI Semiconductor Technology Talent Contest. This initiative is designed to tackle the pressing skills shortage in the country's rapidly growing AI semiconductor industry by attracting top software engineering talent.
The contest, open to Korean nationals interested in the AI semiconductor field, is structured around four categories: Mobile Edge, Server, Semiconductor Design, and sLLM·sLM. Starting with applications on August 12, the competition will proceed through document screening and culminate in a presentation evaluation in December, with an awards ceremony to honor the winners.
Eleven leading South Korean AI semiconductor companies are participating, setting real-world challenges for contestants. These include Nextchip, DEEPX, Rebelion, Mangoboost, SAPEON, OPENEDGES Technology, UXfactory, Telechips, FuriosaAI, Future Design System, and HYPER ACCEL. Participants will spend four months developing solutions to these challenges, with their planning and implementation skills under scrutiny during the final evaluation.
The competition boasts a total prize pool of 160 million won, with the top team receiving 40 million won. Additionally, all participants will have the opportunity to explore employment with ten of the contest's sponsoring companies, alongside access to mentoring and professional employment consulting services.
This contest is a strategic move to bolster South Korea's standing in the global AI semiconductor market. By directly linking emerging talent with industry needs, the initiative aims to spur innovation and ensure the sector's continued technological leadership. It addresses not only current workforce shortages but also lays the foundation for a sustainable talent pipeline, crucial for the future of the AI semiconductor industry and its applications across various sectors.
