HR Professionals Face Critical Skill Gaps in Strategic Leadership, New Study Reveals

A recent study by HR.com, titled 'HR.com's Future of HR Skills and Strategies 2025,' sheds light on the pressing challenges human resources professionals face in acquiring the strategic skills essential for modern business leadership. The research points to a concerning disparity between the perceived importance of certain skills and the actual proficiency levels among HR professionals, signaling a potential obstacle to organizational success.

Among the key findings, the study reveals that while 80% of HR professionals recognize the importance of data and analytics, only 34% feel confident in their department's expertise in this area. Change facilitation, deemed critical by 89% of respondents, sees a proficiency rate of just 47%. The most significant gap was identified in strategic thinking, with 92% acknowledging its importance but only 51% believing their HR departments are highly competent in this skill.

These gaps underscore a critical need for targeted professional development within HR departments. Organizations that have invested in robust HR strategies report being nearly seven times more likely to engage in substantial strategic planning and more than twice as likely to view HR as a strategic partner. This data highlights the transformative potential of enhancing HR capabilities.
