Comcast and Cheney Partner to Expand Fiber Broadband Services

Comcast has finalized an agreement with the City of Cheney to introduce advanced fiber broadband internet services, aiming to connect 2,800 homes and businesses. This partnership will establish a fully fiber-optic network, delivering a range of services including internet, mobile, entertainment, and security through Xfinity and Comcast Business platforms.

Mark Schuller, City Administrator of Cheney, shared his excitement about the collaboration, underscoring the value of adding a dependable internet service provider for the community. Rodrigo Lopez, Senior Vice President of Comcast's Pacific Northwest Region, pointed out the strategic importance of extending network infrastructure to burgeoning areas like Cheney.

This network expansion is a component of Comcast's wider effort to improve connectivity across Spokane County, with parallel initiatives underway in Chattaroy, Medical Lake, and Four Lakes. Comcast plans to launch an online portal for residents to access project specifics and address inquiries, pending the acquisition of required permits.

The initiative promises residential customers multi-gigabit internet speeds, robust WiFi, and efficient connections ideal for streaming, video calls, remote education, and browsing. Businesses in Cheney will also have the opportunity to leverage Comcast Business's extensive array of connectivity, communication, and cybersecurity services.

Demonstrating its dedication to community support, Comcast has established over 10 Lift Zones in Spokane County, offering free internet access and digital skills resources to aid families in online learning. This expansion into Cheney, a city with 13,160 residents and Eastern Washington University, signifies a major investment in the region's technological infrastructure, poised to meet both immediate demands and long-term development goals.
