Honda's Anna Engine Plant Celebrates 40 Years of Innovation and Growth

Honda's Anna Engine Plant (AEP) in Ohio has reached a significant milestone, celebrating its 40th anniversary as the largest Honda auto engine plant globally. Since opening in 1985, AEP has undergone remarkable growth, with investments reaching $2.9 billion and the production of over 32.5 million engines. The plant's ability to manufacture internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrid powertrains, and all-electric motors on the same production lines underscores its critical role in Honda's EV Hub in Ohio.

The evolution of AEP from producing motorcycle engines to a wide array of engines, including those for high-performance vehicles like the Acura NSX and fuel-efficient hybrids, reflects Honda's adaptability and innovation. Michael Tinch, plant lead of AEP, attributes the plant's success to its associates' dedication to quality and innovation. From its initial 200,000 square-foot facility with 94 employees, AEP has expanded to a 2.8 million square-foot operation employing 2,900 people, incorporating ferrous casting, machining, and assembly processes.

As part of Honda's electrification strategy, AEP has introduced new manufacturing processes for aluminum EV battery cases, demonstrating its readiness for the future of mobility. Honda's significant investments in Ohio, including over $1 billion for retooling plants for EV production and a $3.5 billion joint venture for an EV battery plant, highlight the state's importance in Honda's electrified future.
