Ameresco and Republic Services Launch Renewable Natural Gas Facility in Illinois, Marking a Milestone in Sustainable Energy

The partnership between Ameresco and Republic Services has culminated in the successful launch of a renewable natural gas (RNG) facility at the Lee County Landfill in Dixon, Illinois. This facility stands as the 15th joint project between the two companies, highlighting their shared commitment to sustainable energy solutions and the fight against climate change. The Lee County facility is engineered to process 4,500 standard cubic feet per minute of raw landfill gas, converting it into pipeline-quality RNG. This innovative process not only addresses the environmental concerns associated with landfill gas but also achieves a remarkable reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 61,000 metric tons each year.

The environmental benefits of this project are substantial, with the reduction in emissions equating to those from over 70,000,000 gallons of gasoline or about 1,500,000 barrels of oil.
